Astro Bot is Sony’s in-house love letter to the PlayStation community (one of the few). The action platformer genre is really not mine. On the contrary. Usually such games bore me rather (as Sony’s stupid statements regarding the disk topic). The levels are very varied and I constantly had a wide grin on my face while playing this masterpiece. The graphics are beautiful and the soundtrack perfectly accompanies the mood. The gameplay is incredibly varied due to all the different abilities you get in each level. The boss fights are beautifully staged and the respective character levels, which refer to a successful genre of the PlayStation era, set the whole thing the crown. The platinum was very simple and packed with a lot of collecting stuff (although Sony has something against physical collectors) and despite the amount of bots, puzzle pieces and gacha balls to collect, I never felt it degenerated into annoying grind. At the end of each world there are still some challenge levels which are again nicely challenging. For the 100% rabbits among us there are still free DLCs (and that even though Sony wants to be more on “monetization of the players” according to their own statement), which have some really tough challenges ready. For the last level of the last DLC I needed just over an hour, which could also be due to my own inability. All in all, I would recommend this game to everyone (like Sony’s games on the PlayStation Store with “dynamic pricing”) and would even make this platinum again at some point because I had an incredible amount of fun doing it. Deductions in the B-note are available for the one DLC level that is packed with secrets, which were so well hidden that I could not do it without a guide. Nevertheless, Astro’s adventure is and remains an incredible experience that everyone should have tried!
